You should at least wait for two weeks after having an unprotected sexual intercourse, as the bacteria takes that amount of time to appear on the test. If the test results are positive, it means that you have developed the infection. You can take antibiotics such as Cefixime for treating the infection.

An oral prescription medication, Cefixime has been proven to be an effective treatment for bacterial STIs such as gonorrhoea. This pill is generally prescribed as a single dosage treatment for treating this condition. You are required to take a 400mg dosage of the pill as a treatment. The drug can be taken with or without food. However, it is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol for the next 48 hours after taking the pill. Usually, Cefixime is a well-tolerated antibiotic. Some users though can experience side effects such as vomiting, diarrhoea, mild skin rash and headaches.
